    Holding down the important left tackle position for the Austin High football team, Daniel Laden proved extremely valuable, starting all ten games despite suffering a sprained ankle at Del Valle. The 6’7” 250 lb. lineman is now dedicated to preparing for the 2013 season with a returning quarterback, two additional veteran offensive linemen and a pair of talented running backs.

    After missing every district game last year while recovering from an elbow injury, Caitlin Rendon is glad the Austin High girls’ basketball season is underway. “Caitlin has been on the varsity since the middle of her sophomore year,” coach Tricia Johnson said of her 6’0” center. “She is a hard worker on and off the court. She listens, executes, is a leader by her example.”

    Rushing for 229 yards and passing with a pair of quarterbacks, Austin High defeated Akins 41-14 Friday night at Burger Stadium. “It was a great team effort,” Maroon coach Mike Rosenthal said. “The kids played hard, with effort, and I was proud of the way they played.”

    The Austin High baseball team encountered a formidable foe in a bi-district showdown versus Georgetown, as the Eagles swept the Maroons with a 3-1 win on Thursday and a 10-2 victory on Saturday. After finishing third in District 15-5A, Austin High (17-12-1) will lose five seniors to graduation.

    After finishing third in district, the Austin High baseball team must take on Georgetown (23-4-1, 14-4) in a best-of-three game series that begins Thursday evening at Burger Field. “I am so proud of this team for the way they competed and worked all year long,” said Maroons coach Glenn Bacak.

Following Friday’s 3-0 victory over Austin High, the Bulldogs face Anderson for first in district and host Westlake on Thursday at Burger Field. Austin High (16-10) competes a successful season with a roster void of seniors while the Mavericks move forward to face Humble Kingwood in the next round. Chris Moore led the Maroons with 16 points.
